FOUR BEDS: DRUM I, DRUM II, DRUM III, and DRUM IV
These four works directly reference four small flower beds in the artist's dye garden, made from slices of a found air duct, that were installed in the summer of 2023 (see last photo). Each round quilt features up-cycled cottons dyed and printed with flowers from these beds, and are framed with pieces of the exact same air duct used in the garden. They are affixed to the metal ring using twine, and each quilt was made with cotton batting and cotton thread. Drum IV sits on the ground, with large dried coreopsis stalks poking through the quilt.
DRUM I: cotton printed with red velvet coreopsis flowers and mardi gras coreopsis flowers, dyed with weld, iron, and coreopsis.
DRUM II: cotton printed with double black hollyhock and coreopsis flowers, dyed with weld, iron, hollyhock, and coreopsis.
DRUM III: cotton printed with coreopsis flowers and marigold petals, dyed with coreopsis, marigold, indigo, hollyhock, weld, and iron.
DRUM IV: cotton printed with cosmos flowers, dyed with cosmos, coreopsis, weld, and iron.
Each drum is approx. 0.6m in diameter. Drums I-III are 15cm deep, Drum IV is 40cm deep.
