What the Plants Know
What can plants know...and what is plant knowing? Is it a type of knowing that stimulates growth, builds layers of complexity, that colonises and invades, alters soil chemistry, or turns carbon dioxide into oxygen? Is it a type of knowing that grows the ingredients for colour, that fits into a crack in the pavement or hole in the wall, that entices or relaxes or nourishes others?
What the Plants Know features paintings, sculptures, and quilts that celebrate the beauty and allure of plants and their worlds. Cecilia’s paintings show the managed forest landscapes of her native Sweden. Katerina’s work references a cultivated space: her dye garden in the Burren. Quilts and sculptures exaggerate and abstract the plant forms she knows intimately. Images below are of Katerina’s works in the show.
